2019-55 Birch & Blackwood 5-1/2"d x 10”h
Gravity I: One of a series of wood sculptures I’m exploring. I’ve called them “Gravity” as the suspended bowls remind me of diagrams I’ve seen describing the impact of gravity on space/time. Turned very thin from “green” (undried) Birch, the bowl is slightly warped and colored with vivid red and yellow dyes. I also rubbed (fingerpainted) some metallic swirls onto the inside of the bowl to enhance the space/gravity effect. The turned Blackwood legs pierce the edges of the bowl and are secured with copper wire.
