2020-30 White Oak 10” x 7”w x 2-1/4”h
A “slab bowl,” turned from the rough-cut end of a large Oak log that had begun to decompose. All cut edges show roughened saw marks. The bowl is inset into the slab, with the rim defined by a large bead, as well as a turned base for stability. The end grain beautifully displays the medullary rays characteristic of Oak, as well as the growth rings. The piece cracked in a few places as it dried (most notably in the middle of the long cut edge), and these are filled with Copper metallic powdered inlay.
